Arrest made in burglary, sexual assault case


Paris – A Paris man has been arrested for the alleged burglary of a habitation with intent to commit a sex offense.

30-year-old Guillermo Santos Rodriguez was taken into custody near the vicinity of the offense in the 3700 block of Pine Mill Road. The incident occurred at around 5:45 a.m. Saturday.

National group leaves positive impact on region

COMMERCE – Dozens of Commerce residents are enjoying numerous improvements made to their home last week, thanks to a visit by the U.M. Army.

The United Methodist Action Reach-Out Mission by Youth and its roughly 65 high school-aged volunteers setup camp in the city last week, providing low-income, elderly and disabled citizens various services including wheelchair ramp installation.

Child death in Hunt County ruled homicide


Hunt County – The caregivers of a two-year-old boy are expected to be charged in connection to the youth's death, after he was found dead Sunday morning near the FM 513 overpass near Campbell.

Hunt County Chief Deputy Joe Knight says the Sheriff's Office is treating the case as a homicide investigation, as the child had been dead for some time and suffered massive blunt force trauma.

Immerse Yourself In An Innocent, Ill-Fated Love

In 1995, when I was a sophomore in high school, an older, popular boy came out of the closet. He was taunted daily until he dropped out. I never saw him again.

Months later, a decidedly unpopular, more flamboyant boy was beaten in the schoolyard. I remember escorting him to the nurse's office. I remember the look of disgust on the nurse's face; I don't know whether this disgust was directed at the act of savagery, or at the bleeding boy himself, and his arm around my shoulder. I also remember thinking that soon it would be my turn, and sure enough it was.

Bonham – The first in a series of facilities workshops at the Bonham ISD is scheduled for tonight in the board room at the Bailey Inglish Campus.

The District is asking for community participation to help make decisions regarding the future facility needs for students.

Youth exercising mind and body during Kids Camp


Commerce – The Boys and Girls Club of Northeast Texas, Commerce Branch wraps up their first week of the Summer II Session of Kids Camp Friday.

In partnering with the Commerce ISD, Communities in Schools, area churches and volunteers, kids are allowed the opportunity to exercise their minds and bodies.

This week, A&M-Commerce Head Women's Basketball Coach Nicole Anderson incorporated her highly motivating Hoop School program into the regular session.

Murder suspects avoid jail time in plea deal


Quitman – The Wood County District Attorney's Office has reached a plea deal with two brothers charged in the murder of a Winnsboro woman.

Ty Evans and Demarcus Hearn will not receive prison time, but ten years probation for their alleged involvement in the 2009 drive-by shooting of 24-yhear-old Anna Marie Moore. Evans had been tried twice in the case, each ending in a mistrial.

The Wood County DA says if Hearn or Evans is to break their terms of probation, they could receive up to life in prison.

Local fugitive found near Texas Panhandle


Lubbock – Acting on a tip, Texas State Troopers located and arrested an East Texas man just hours after he was placed on the state's 10 Most Wanted Sex Offenders list.

Ronald Dee House, of Wills Point, was found at a motel in Lubbock.

House is described as a high risk offender and was wanted for failing to register as a sex offender and parole violations. He had been sentenced to 22 years in prison and was placed on parole in 2005 out of Van Zandt County. House reportedly has family in Lubbock.
