Pickton man arrested for sexual assault of child


Hopkins County – Hopkins County authorities have arrested a Pickton man they believed sexually assaulted one of his children on multiple occasions.

The 30-year-old suspect, whose name is not being released at this time to protect the identity of the victim, remained in jail at last report.

The victim was reportedly 9 years old.

Greenville man again in trouble with the law


Greenville – A local armed robbery suspect from Greenville is expected back in the Hunt County Jail after allegedly committing the same offense in Dallas County.

Romano Zapada Dillard Jr. was out on bond after reportedly committing the first offense back in Augsut, 2010. But in April, Dillard was arrested in Wylie on a new charge of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon.

He was last being held in the Dallas County Jail, but has been ordered back to Hunt County by Tuesday, should there be any change in his local bond.

Shooting at local KFC leaves one man dead


Paris – An East Texas man is charged with murder after allegedly gunning down another man inside a Paris restaurant.

Police responded to Kentucky Fried Chicken on Clarksville St. at around 8 p.m. Sunday where they observed several employees running from the restaurant, claiming two men were inside, and one with a gun.

Mary of Puddin Hill going out of business


Greenville – An iconic Greenville business, Mary of Puddin Hill, will soon close its doors, citing a lack of sales in the slumping economy.

Owner Ken Bain says the company's catalog business actually increased during the past year, but retail operations had been hampered by the poor economy, rising fuel costs and ongoing construction along Interstate 30.

Evans back in court Monday for murder retrial


Quitman – The retrial of a Longview man, accused in the drive-by shooting death of 24-year-old Anna Marie Moore, of Winnsboro, begins next week.

19-year-old Ty Jordan Evans allegedly shot Moore as she sat on her living room sofa with her children in May, 2009. Jury selection is set for Monday.

Evans' first trial ended in a mistrial after the jury was unable to reach a verdict. His brother, Demarcus Hearn, also faces trial in the case.

Man charged with failing to register as sex offender


Greenville – A Greenville man has received a federal indictment for failing to register as a sex offender.

A federal grand jury in Tyler handed down the charge Wednesday against Howard Wayne Collins. According to the indictment, Collins is alleged to have failed to register, as required by law, from September, 2010 to April of this year.

If convicted, he faces up to ten years in prison. No trial date was immediately set.

A&M-Commerce, PJC to hold graduation


– Texas A&M University-Commerce and Paris Junior College are among institutions of higher learning conducting graduation ceremonies this weekend.

A&M-Commerce Undgraduates in the College of Arts and Sciences and College of Business and Technology graduate at 8:30 a.m., while undegraduates in the College of Education and Human Services receive diplomas at 11:30 a.m. at the Field House.
