Trial to begin in murder case of Paris infant

Paris – A jury is to be chosen Wednesday in the murder trial of Darrell Wayne Hood, of Paris, charged in the death of his infant son.

The 27-year-old Hood and the child's mother brought the unresponsive baby boy to Paris Regional Medical Center last September. But doctors said there was evidence of blunt force trauma to the child, contradicting Hood's claims he dropped the 18-month-old. Authorities say the baby was reportedly punched in the chest several times.

A week later, Hood was charged with murder.

Sulphur Springs to close swimming pool

SULPHUR SPRINGS – Due to a lack of economic viability, the City of Sulphur Springs has announced they will not reopen their public pool this spring.

City officials declined comment on neither the announcement nor what the future holds for the venue, citing pending litigation.

According to a statement issued Monday, during the past few years pool use has continued to decline while operating and other expenses have increased. City officials feel current use of the facility would be imprudent considering the era of budget cuts and tighter spending.
