Burglary suspect leads authorities on chase


Quinlan – Hunt County authorities were led on a chase Thursday afternoon following a reported burglary near Lake Tawakoni.

A homeowner in the 6600 block of FM 276 discovered a person inside a barn located on his property.

The suspect then fled in a vehicle and the homeowner followed while calling 911. A short time later, the suspect vehicle was spotted by a Hunt County constable, and officers gave chase until the man stopped at his Quinlan residence, leading officers on a short foot pursuit.

Local man killed while authorities try and serve warrant


Fannin County – A Fannin County man was shot and killed yesterday by authorities attempting to serve a warrant.

Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Mark Tackett says that 31-year-old Christopher Ramquist was shot following a struggle at his home near Bonham.

It was not immediately known how many shots officers fired.

Tackett says that a multi-agency drug task force was issuing an arrest warrant for Ramquist, wanted for conspiracy to possess with intent to manufacture and distribute methamphetamine.

Deadline set in cleanup of former ESCO site


Greenville – The Environmental Protection Agency says it plans to clean up the former ESCO Manufacturing Site in the Ardis Heights area of Greenville by September, 2012.

In 2008, the site was added to the National Priorities List (Superfund Sites) after tests on the soil discovered the ground is contaminated with polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) and lead.

Over 8,000 tons of contaminated soils have since been removed for the surrounding area. Another 4,000 cubic yards of contaminated soil remains inside the building.

Fundraiser brings big bucks for Sulphur Bluff ISD


Sulphur Bluff – A recent fundraiser to benefit graduates of the Sulphur Bluff ISD generated 17,000.

That's about $2,500 more than was raised last year, and means more money will be available for this year's crop of students.

The 11th Annual Sulphur Bluff Scholarship Foundation Annual Dinner & Auction included big-ticket items like a 42-inch flat screen TV and Dallas Cowboys tickets.

Candidates to participate in Thursday forum


Sulphur Springs – The Hopkins County Chamber of Commerce will host a candidate forum Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Civic Center.

State Representative candidates Mark Homer and Erwin Cain, County Judge candidates Cletis Millsap and Chris Brown and Commissioner Candidates Trey Hinton and Mike Odell will participate.

Parking regulations passed for major thoroughfare


Sulphur Springs – Under a new ordinance approved Tuesday, parking on Houston Street in Sulphur Springs will be prohibited Monday through Friday.

The City Council must approve a second reading before the law takes effect.

Council had originally planned to discuss no parking between 8 a.m. 5 p.m. on weekdays, but instead voted to restrict parking during the entire week.

Local cases heard by appeals court in Bonham


Bonham – A state appeals court heard arguments Wednesday in the case of Brandon Dale Woodruff, convicted of capital murder and sentenced to life in prison for the 2005 deaths of his parents.

It is not clear when the Sixth District Court of Appeals will issue its final ruling, but the three-judge panel did have some questions about Woodruff's 2009 trial and its outcome.

Also Wednesday in Bonham, the 6th Court of Appeals heard arguments in the case of Cory Don Louis.

Standoff subject to face obstruction of highway passageway


Greenville – A criminal charge has been filed against the suspect who threatened to jump from a Greenville bridge in August.

Jack Eugene Duvall Jr., of Greenville, has been charged with one count of obstruction of a highway passageway, a misdemeanor.

No hearings had been set as of Wednesday in the case.

Duvall is currently in the Dallas County Jail, where he's awaiting a revocation of probation on an aggravated assault charge.

A&M-C Hopkins County Reception Endows Scholarship


Sulphur Springs – Texas A&M University-Commerce Hopkins County alumni and friends recently endowed the Hopkins County Alumni Scholarship Endowment thanks to the many pledges and commitments during the Hopkins County Alumni reception in Sulphur Springs. The scholarship reached its $10,000 goal and will soon be available to A&M-Commerce Hopkins County students.
