Greenville – A Commerce man is alleged to have stolen from an elderly Hunt County resident, plus making purchases on the stolen credit card.

Michael Hubbard Jr. is charged with one count of theft of property and multiple counts of credit card abuse. He appeared in court Monday for an interim hearing.

Hubbard had previously pleaded not guilty to the charge. A trial date has not yet been scheduled.

He's alleged to have committed the offenses between June 2008 and January 2009.

Greenville – A charge has been levied against a Greenville man who caused a major traffic jam Tuesday, which also resulted in a fatal accident.

Police have charged 36-year-old Jack Eugene Duval Jr. with obstruction of a highway passageway. He had not been arraigned nor had bond set as of Wednesday afternoon.

Duval was reported to have climbed onto the State Highway 34/Wesley Street overpass Tuesday morning and allegedly threatened to jump.

College Station – Students within the Texas A&M University System stand to benefit from the Course Exchange Program (CEP), which allows students to take online courses between participating system institutions.

A&M-Commerce participated in piloting the project over the summer.

Greenville – It was unclear Wednesday afternoon whether an apparent suicidal subject who prompted Tuesday's standoff in Greenville will face criminal charges in connection to a fatal accident.

The standoff led to a nearly five hour traffic jam along Interstate 30. During the jam, 65-year-old Jerry Garner was killed after crashing into an 18-wheeler that had stopped in traffic near the 89 mile marker.

Greenville – The City of Greenville joins a list of other area Texas cities to ban the use of the controversial product K2.

The City Council Tuesday voted to ban the substance outright; prohibiting the use, purchase, possession or sale within city limits.

Commerce, Sulphur Springs, McKinney, Van Alstyne, Allen, Plano and Mansfield are among other area cities that have either banned the substance entirely, or voted to restrict the product's sale to individuals under 21.

Sulphur Springs – After serving 48 years in law enforcement, Hopkins County Constable Roger "Tex" Maynard is retiring, effective at year's end.

Maynard has been a constable for precinct 1 the past 18 years, and prior to that spent 30 years as a state trooper.

The Hopkins County Commissioners Court will appoint someone to fill out the remainder of his term.

Sulphur Springs – Five jobs will be affected as the Texas Department of Public Safety plans to close its dispatch center in Sulphur Springs by the end of the year.

Communications will then be handled by the DPS office in Garland. The Driver's License and Highway Patrol offices will remain open.

Dispatchers say they were told the DPS would try to find other positions for them.

Ben Wheeler – Van Zandt County authorities are reporting the discovery of a homemade bomb in a mailbox at a rural residence.

The item, described as a long pipe-like object wrapped in black electrical tape with an apparent fuse, was located near Ben Wheeler.

Agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were called to the scene, as well as the Garland Bomb Squad.
