Vehilce of missing woman located


Hugo, Oklahoma – The pickup of 33-year-old Melissa McVay Darling has reportedly been found near Hugo, Oklahoma. But the Sulphur Springs woman remains missing.

Police are continuing to develop leads, and have declined to release further information so as not to jeopardize the investigation.

The Paris Police Department, Lamar County Sheriff's Office, Texas Rangers and Oklahoma authorities have joined the investigation.

Cumby resident behind bars for solicitation


Greenville – A Hopkins County man has been arrested and charged with using a text message to solicit sex from a minor.

The indictment issued last month alleges Ronny Thomas Trevilion, of Cumby, sent the sexually explicit text to a minor female child on February 7.

A warrant was issued from Hunt County for Trevilion's arrest on June 13, and he was arrested two days later. He remained in jail Friday on $50,000 bond.

Hashmi wins Paris City Council recount


Paris – With more than 700 total votes, Dr. A.J. Hashmi received 59 percent of the vote to win a recount for the Paris City Council District 7.

Hashmi, a local cardiologist, defeated incumbent Rhonda Rogers by receiving 416 out of 705 votes.

Saturday's recount was the result of neither candidate receiving over 50 percent of the vote in May, which then featured three total candidates.

Second plea heard in local murder case


Greenville – Another not guilty plea has been entered in connection to a February shooting death in Greenville.

Tyrone Laron McCurdy and Bernard Dale Kelly Jr. have each been charged with murder following the February shooting death of Treybbian Leekey Nelson. Kelly pleaded not guilty Monday, while McCurday entered the same plea on Wednesday.

Interim hearings for both men will be in July.

More lane closures along major roadways


– Slow moving traffic is again expected in parts of Greenville Friday, as additional work goes into the Interstate 30/Wesley Street overpass project.

The Texas Department of Transportation is reporting that single daytime lane closures will be necessary along westbound Interstate 30 at the overpass now through next Friday, June 24. The lane closure will accommodate a crane designed to pour columns for the new bridge.

Multipurpose facility task force to disband


Commerce – A Commerce task force created to gauge the public's interest on a multipurpose facility is put on hold.

As part of Tuesday's agenda, the 12-team task force plans to recommend to council disbandment, following the recent news that Covidien will close late next year.

Search for missing person strengthens


Sulphur Springs – Multiple law enforcement agencies have now joined in the search for missing Sulphur Springs resident Melissa McVay Darling.

According to Police Chief Jim Bayuk, the investigation into the disappearance of the 33-year-old is now involving the Oklahoma Bureau of Investigation, the Lamar County Sheriff's Office and Hugo police.

Voters head to the polls Saturday for runoff


Paris – The runoff election between incumbent Rhonda Rogers and challenger Dr. A.J. Hashmi for Paris City Council District 7 is Saturday.

Last month, none of the then three candidates, which also included Ken Kohls, were able to obtain at least 50 percent of the vote. Kohls has endorsed Dr. Hashmi over Rogers. The two men received almost 65 percent of the May vote.

Polls on Saturday will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Ramseur Baptist Church at 3400 Lamar Avenue.
