Harle transferred to face upcoming sentencing


Greenville – Windy Yvonne Harle of Commerce has been transferred from Hopkins County to Hunt County to face charges of injury to a child and identity fraud.

The 35-year-old Harle was also sentenced this week to two years in prison for possession of a controlled substance and one year from credit card abuse.

Harle was indicted in April on the injury to a child count. She was arrested in June 2009 following a reported disturbance in the 2300 block of Bois D'Arc Street.

City to advertise for bids on new event facility


Sulphur Springs – Within about 30 days, construction could start for the new "Brightstar Center" on Main Street in Sulphur Springs.

The city will advertise for bids to build the new covered facility that will host a variety of activities including shows, movies and parties. It can also be used for the Farmer's Market on days with inclement weather.

The City Council is expected to award a contract for the winning bid at its July 6th meeting.

Local veterans to receive retroactive benefits


Sulphur Springs – Veterans of the Vietnam War from Delta and Hopkins counties who've been exposed to Agent Orange are encouraged to contact Hopkins County Veterans Service Officer Joe Reid Scott.

According to Scott, the Department of Veterans Affairs has added some new diseases that are presumably caused by exposure to the chemical while serving on the ground in Vietnam.

Previously denied claims will be re-adjudicated by the VA for Vietnam veterans and survivors and will provide retroactive benefits.

Williams to be sentenced for aggravated assault


Greenville – Sentencing is scheduled today for a Greenville man who took an unauthorized stroll from the Hunt County Courthouse after being convicted of aggravated assault.

Randy Lee Williams was placed back in jail May 17, almost three weeks after hearing the guilty verdict and then walking away from the courthouse before a sentencing hearing could be conducted.

Commerce – Derek Heinze, a senior Texas A&M University-Commerce communication art student, has collected multiple advertising awards over the past year and is gaining national recognition after having his work selected for inclusion into the 2010 HOW International Design Annual.

Fannin County to formally dedicate new law post


Bonham – The Fannin County Commissioner's Court formally welcomes new County Court at Law Judge Joe Moss to the position Wednesday.

A dedication and ribbon cutting is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the County's South Annex, 210 South Main Street in Bonham.

The new position was created in September 2009 and Moss was appointed by commissioners to the position in November. He began his duties Monday.

Man hospitalized after vehicle-pedestrian accident


Greenville – A 56-year-old man was taken to the hospital after being struck by a vehicle in Greenville Monday.

The accident took place just before 10 a.m. in the 2000 block of Stonewall Street.

A motorist struck an adult male who was standing in the roadway near the intersection of Bourland Street. Reports indicate that the driver of the vehicle attempted to avoid the collision but was unable to prevent the accident.

The male victim was transported to Parkland Hospital by air ambulance.

I-30 shut down as crews talk man down from bridge


Greenville – A potentially dangerous situation ends peacefully Monday, as officials in Greenville talk down a man who was standing on a concrete beam over an Interstate 30 overpass.

At approximately 4:50 p.m., units with the Greenville Police Department responded to a call of a 36-year-old man acting erratically on the I-30 overpass at Wesley Street.

TxDot to reduce portion of SH 11 to one lane


Commerce – The Texas Department of Transportation plans to reduce a portion of Highway 11 to one lane just south of Commerce beginning Wednesday.

TxDot and its contractor, DL Lennon, Inc. have announced plans to install a box culvert across the highway at Oak Lane/County Road 4420. CR 4420 will be closed Wednesday and SH 11 reduced to one lane.

Construction at the intersection is expected to last several days. Motorists are asked to exercise caution when traveling through the area.
