Trial of slain A&M-Commerce student to begin


Daingerfield – After months of delays, officials in Morris County are scheduled to begin a murder trial this week in the case of a slain Texas A&M University-Commerce student.

23-year-old Lester Jackson, of Pittsburg, is alleged to have shot and killed 20-year-old Christopher Rashad Moore outside Katdaddy's Club near Daingerfield on April 12. Jackson is also charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Crews hurry to restore power to customers


– Power has been restored to roughly half of Oncor customers in Northeast Texas.

The large amounts of snow had weighed down tree branches which broke and fell onto power lines.

This morning's estimates had over 2,500 residents without power in Commerce, Paris and Sulphur Springs combined.

Paris Police bust forgery suspect


Paris – A Clarksville man is charged with multiple counts of forgery following his arrest in Paris Thursday.

24-year-old Erik David Ray Sneed had attempted to pass a check that didn't belong to him at a business in the 4300 block of Lamar Avenue.

After a brief investigation it was discovered that Sneed also had several other checks on his person that were not his as well.

The forgery charge is a State Jail Felony.

Greenville garbage collection cancelled


– IESI has announced that there will be no garbage collection in Greenville on Friday, February 12, 2010, due to the inclement weather and road conditions. Heavy snow has caused low hanging power lines and tree limbs that are preventing IESI trucks from navigating roadways.

Customers slated for garbage collection today will receive service on their next regularly scheduled collection day.

Trial delayed in animal cruelty case


Fannin County – Trial has been delayed for a Fannin County woman, who was scheduled to appear in court Thursday on allegations of animal cruelty.

In August, Ector resident Kim Dotson had dozens of horses and donkeys seized from her property and turned over to the Humane Society.

Dotson was allowed to keep six healthy horses but supposed to keep them in good condition. Then last week, Bells Police found two of those horses in worse condition - thin and emaciated - and seized those as well.

Slick roads cause major accident in Greenville


Greenville – A major accident in Greenville Thursday leaves three people injured. The incident occurred at the intersection of Joe Ramsey Blvd. and Stonewall Street at around 9:00 a.m.

Upon responding to the scene, authorities found a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu had crashed into a traffic signal pole.

Region receives record snowfall


– Reports are showing a bulk of Northeast Texas received approximately 11 inches of snow Friday, marking the heaviest snowfall in years and of all time in some locations. Areas off to the north and west of the Metroplex reportedly had even more snowfall.

Homicide reported in Hunt County


– A reported break-in Thursday night near West Tawakoni leads to the second homicide so far this year in Hunt County.

The incident occurred in the 1000 block of Running Bear Road, just north of Highway 276.

Upon arrival, authorities found 43-year-old Michael C. Nix, of Quinlan, deceased. Although several details are sketchy, the initial investigation would find that a disturbance and then shooting occurred.

The shooter was later located in Quinlan.

As of Friday, no charges had been filed and no one had been taken into custody.
