– The race for U.S. Congress District 4 has become very crowded, with at least five candidates now seeking the Republican nomination.
Monday is the final day to file for the March 2 party primary elections. Incumbent U.S. Representative Ralph Hall, of Rockwall, is seeking re-election to his 16th term in Congress, but will have to fend off several challengers.
Greenville – Funeral services are scheduled for Monday afternoon for longtime Hunt County resident and philanthropist Jack Finney, who died Friday at the age of 93.
Within the last few years, Finney has donated $500,000 to Texas A&M University-Commerce for its new music building and $1 million to the Hunt Memorial Hospital District, which went toward the Lou and Jack Finney Cancer Center. At its completion the new A&M-Commerce music building auditorium will be named the Lou and Jack Finney Concert Hall.
Commerce – Four people have been arrested in connection to a New Year's shooting in Commerce that injured three people.
The shots fired are believed the result of a Greenville man being stabbed inside The Lodge early New Year's Day. Police say another Greenville man was shot in the leg, while a Commerce woman was shot in the foot while in the parking lot.
Commerce, TX – An investigation is underway into what caused a fire at a Commerce business last night.
No injuries were reported from the blaze, which occurred at My Sister's Closet along Highway 50.
Fire Chief Brian McNevin says one room was heavily damaged, while the entire business, the former Sip & Surf next door and Mi Casita Restaurant sustained water and smoke damage.

Commerce – Commerce Police have initiated a new program aimed at protecting home owners from becoming targets of theft and other crimes.
It empowers a home owner with the piece of mind that he or she is doing their part in crime prevention while making their residence a less appealing target for criminals. The program allows the city's crime prevention office to go in and survey a homeowner's residence to determine any weaknesses and strengths to their overall security.
Hopkins County – The Texas Department of Transportation has awarded a bid to D.L. Lennon Inc. to begin work on State Highway 154 near FM 1567 in Hopkins County.
The project will reconstruct nearly 2.5 miles of the existing two-lane highway without shoulders to a three-lane highway with shoulders. The bid was awarded at just under $3.2 million and is expected to take seven months to complete.

Greenville – A Greenville residence is completely destroyed following a Thursday evening fire in the 3800 block of Bourland Street.
Crews arrived on the scene to find a vacant two-story home fully involved in flames, which forced firefighters to conduct a defensive attack and protect surrounding areas. It took close to four hours until the fire was extinguished.
There were no injuries reported and no further damage to surrounding properties. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Commerce – Legendary country music artist Ray Price will be receiving an honorary doctorate from Texas A&M University-Commerce on Dec. 19 for his contributions to the state, region and country, as well as his accomplishments throughout his career.
