Not guilty plea heard in solicitation of minor


Hunt County – An Arkansas man faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison for his alleged solicitation of a female child in Hunt Count.

28-year-old Christopher Lee Crawford pleaded not guilty Monday, during which time a tentative trial date for next May.

Crawford was alleged to have contacted the minor through the internet on four occasions in February and March of last year.

New head of Hopkins County GOP to begin work


Hopkins County – Donnie Wisenbaker is set to take over as head of the Hopkins County Republican Party.

Wisenbaker replaces Erwin Cain, who resigned to campaign for the GOP nomination for the State Representative for District 3; a seat currently held by Mark Homer. Also running for the nomination is Holland Harper, a businessman from Paris.

Homer recently announced intentions of running for re-election.
There is currently no democratic opposition.

Status of injured Wood County official improving


Tyler – A Wood County official is in stable condition following last week's alleged attack by a mentally ill man.

The attack on Constable for Precinct 2 Ed Shadbolt took place at a home in Mineola.

He has been taken out of intensive care at ETMC in Tyler and moved to a private room.

Any pending charges against the suspect will be determined after interviews with Shadbolt.

Greenville woman pleads guilty to theft


Greenville – A Greenville woman receives probation after pleading guilty to stealing thousands from a state employment agency.

Under a plea bargain arraignment, Kameisha Monique Jones was also ordered to serve 100 hours of community service and pay more than $17,000 in restitution.

Jones reportedly appropriated between $50 and $500 from the North Central Texas Workforce Development Board on 66 separate occasions between 2003 and 2006.

Hunt County Commissioners to consider IRIS

Hunt County – Hunt County Commissioners will discuss whether or not to participate in the IRIS system at today's regular meeting. The Immediate Response Information System, or IRIS, is a mass notification tool for emergency and non-emergency information. IRIS is currently used by the A&M-Commerce police for notifications.

Greenville hires new Finance Director

Greenville – The Herald Banner reports that Cliff Copeland has been named the new Finance Director for the City of Greenville. Copeland has served as Assistant Finance Director since May 2008 and is a graduate of Texas A&M University-Commerce. Copeland will oversee the Finance Department, Information Technology, Municipal Court, Central Services and Fleet Maintenance.

A Greenville woman has a history of stealing

Greenville – Diane Rashay Coleman is facing a jury trial in April of next year on a charge of felony theft.

30 year old Coleman of Greenville, was indicted by the Hunt County grand jury on the charge for allegedly stealing shrimp and hamburgers from a local store in August. She has pleaded not guilty. Coleman has been charged and/or convicted of theft at least a dozen times in the past 22 years.

An arraignment is scheduled today in connection with a Greenville murder

Greenville – An arraignment is scheduled today in connection with a Greenville murder. Joshua William Lay received the indictment November 13th for the death of Darryl Dwayne Feggett of Greenville. Lay has reportedly admitted to the August shooting.

Thursday accident injures one on campus


Commerce – A pedestrian is injured after being struck by a vehicle Thursday night on the Texas A&M University-Commerce campus.

The extent of the victim's injures were not known at last report, according to University Police Department Office Cory Brookshire. He said the victim was not using the crosswalk when she was struck. The woman was walking toward Ferguson auditorium to watch her daughter play in a concert.
