Commerce – The A&M-Commerce family welcomed the largest freshmen class in the University's history Thursday morning during the annual Pride Walk.

The event, which takes place along the Walking Mall on the east end of campus, was preceded by the annual Fall Assembly inside the Ferguson Social Sciences Building.

Greenville – Five individuals have been arrested in connection to a major string of residential burglaries in Hunt and surrounding counties.

An extensive investigation by Hunt County Investigator Kenneth Peters led to the arrests over the weekend in the areas of Dove Drive and CR 3621.

The scope of the investigation was not immediately clear, as officials were sorting through recovered property ranging from weapons and welders to motorcycles and musical instruments.

Campbell – The Campbell ISD has approved to place both a bond and tax ratification election on the November ballot.

School Board members this week voted in favor of a $5 million bond package, plus a property tax rate of $1.17 per $100 valuation.

Since the proposed tax rate exceeds the effective rate, it must be approved by voters.

Dallas – In one year, only 11 schools will remain in the Lone Star Conference following announcements earlier this summer that five Oklahoma Schools are leaving.

During a meeting this week, the presidents of those remaining schools, including A&M-Commerce, adopted a pledge of commitment to the LSC.

Conference Commissioner Stan Wagnon, in a press release issued Wednesday, says the decision reflects the desire of those institutions to move forward and look to the future.

Greenville – A Commerce man is alleged to have stolen from an elderly Hunt County resident, plus making purchases on the stolen credit card.

Michael Hubbard Jr. is charged with one count of theft of property and multiple counts of credit card abuse. He appeared in court Monday for an interim hearing.

Hubbard had previously pleaded not guilty to the charge. A trial date has not yet been scheduled.

He's alleged to have committed the offenses between June 2008 and January 2009.

Greenville – A charge has been levied against a Greenville man who caused a major traffic jam Tuesday, which also resulted in a fatal accident.

Police have charged 36-year-old Jack Eugene Duval Jr. with obstruction of a highway passageway. He had not been arraigned nor had bond set as of Wednesday afternoon.

Duval was reported to have climbed onto the State Highway 34/Wesley Street overpass Tuesday morning and allegedly threatened to jump.

College Station – Students within the Texas A&M University System stand to benefit from the Course Exchange Program (CEP), which allows students to take online courses between participating system institutions.

A&M-Commerce participated in piloting the project over the summer.

Greenville – It was unclear Wednesday afternoon whether an apparent suicidal subject who prompted Tuesday's standoff in Greenville will face criminal charges in connection to a fatal accident.

The standoff led to a nearly five hour traffic jam along Interstate 30. During the jam, 65-year-old Jerry Garner was killed after crashing into an 18-wheeler that had stopped in traffic near the 89 mile marker.
