Quinlan man sought in burglary case


Quinlan – Authorities are seeking the whereabouts of a Quinlan man following a recent burglary.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of William Mark England, one of two suspects believed involved. The other individual was reportedly arrested after sheriff's officials received word of the crime a few days ago.

Greenville group wants two-way traffic downtown


Greenville – An urban renewal group wants two-way transportation in Downtown Greenville.

During a meeting Tuesday, the Citizens Urban Renewal Effort (C.U.R.E.) asked those in attendance to sign a petition asking for Lee and Washington Streets to be converted from their present one-way operation. C.U.R.E. is also planning to conduct a walking tour later this month of the area in the hopes of encouraging participation from more of the residents in the vicinity.

Guilty plea heard in Greenville theft


Greenville – A woman has pleaded guilty for stealing from a Greenville psychologist.

33-year-old Kristy Diane Childers Foster has been placed on probation and ordered to pay thousands of dollars in restitution.

Under a plea bargain arrangement, Foster was placed on five years of deferred adjudication probation, fined $500, and ordered to complete 200 hours of community service. She is also to write a letter of apology to Dr. David B. Bell, a clinical psychologist in Greenville.

CISD works to improve safety for new school year


Commerce – It's been a busy summer at Commerce ISD with crews working to increase the safety and security of students and staff for the fall.

A recent release by the district describes a number of new projects and services to be utilized this year and beyond, including new storefront entrances at Commerce Elementary and Middle Schools, new technology and parking regulations.

Council working toward street improvement program


Commerce – The Commerce City Council is moving forward with plans to improve city streets, giving City Manager Dion Miller authority to proceed with contract negotiations for a street inventory and pavement assessment project.

The contract with Dallas-based Berkhoff, Hendricks and Conway, estimated to run between $35,000 and $40,000, would provide services to determine a capital improvement program for the work and help prioritize street and drainage refurbishing needs.

Two Greenville firefighters promoted


Greenville – The Greenville Fire Department has recently promoted both Jake Papageorgiou to Lieutenant and Jordan Stogsdill to Engineer.

Papageorgiou and Stogsdill are active participants in the F. A. R. M. (Firemen as Role Models) program and volunteer for the department's Relay for Life team. Each received the Greenville Fire-Rescue 2008 Community Involvement Award in addition to City employee of the quarter and the American Legion Firefighter of the Year Award.

S. Springs Council to hold budget workshop


Sulphur Springs – The Sulphur Springs City Council is scheduled Tuesday to hold a workshop to draft the budget for the upcoming fiscal year, plus hold its regular meeting.

The workshop will take place at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Room at 125 South Davis Street. It is open to the public.
