Bond denied for hostage suspect


Greenville – A bond reduction is denied for a Greenville man involved in a hostage situation.

38-year-old Thomas Patrick Miller remains in custody in lieu of a total of $255,000 bond on charges of aggravated kidnapping and assault/family violence.

During a Monday morning hearing, a judge denied any reduction in bond for Miller. No additional hearings were immediately scheduled.

Caddo Mills man gets 25 years for possession


Greenville – A prison sentence is handed down for methamphetamine possession in Hunt County.

Michael Glenn Roberts, of Caddo Mills, was formerly sentenced Monday to 25 years in prison after being found guilty by a jury last week. The same panel also assessed punishment in the case.

Suspect killed after police chase ends in Hopkins County


Commerce, Greenville – A Dallas man on a stolen motorcycle was killed Monday when he wrecked out in Hopkins County following a high speed chase.

33-year-old Joseph Christopher Testa of Dallas was pronounced dead at the scene.

City responds to Mayor's inquiry into suspension


Commerce – The City of Commerce has responded to Mayor Quay Throgmorton's inquiry regarding the legitimacy of Dion Miller's suspension.

Throgmorton's argument looks at the language in both Section 30 (Removal of city manager) of the City's Charter, and Section 3 (Suspension) of City Manager Miller's employment contract, claiming the contract is inconsistent with and in violation of the City Charter.

Region response to census matches national rate


– A report from the U.S. Census Bureau finds area counties responding to the government's questionnaire fall in line with the national average.

As of Monday, the participation rate was 34 percent nationwide.

Area counties either equaling or exceeding that rate by one or two percentage points were Hopkins, Fannin, Lamar and Wood counties, with Rockwall County posting the region's highest participation rate at 37 percent.

New exit ramp to open along I-30 in Greenville


Greenville – More changes are expected this week to traffic along Interstate 30 in Greenville. Motorists are about to have a new way of exiting onto U.S. Highway 69 and/or Business Highway 69D.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has announced a new exit ramp is scheduled to open Tuesday, weather permitting.

It will impact how westbound drivers are able to access the highway, which is also referred to as Joe Ramsey Boulevard and Moulton Street.

Indictments issued in New Year's Day shooting


Commerce – Aggravated assault indictments have been returned in connection to a New Year's Day shooting in Commerce.

25-year-old Carlos Anthony Mahr, of Garland, is charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing bodily injury.
