Commerce – In part two of our series on John Doe 7 vs. City of Commerce, KETR will explore in more detail why at a recent meeting no one made a motion to settle the lawsuit.

The June 2 meeting wasn't, however, the first time such an agreement was put before the council. Several months back, Councilman Bob Monday made a motion to settle, but was met with no second and the motion died. He says he didn't want to go through that again.

"Quite frankly, I didn't want to be embarrassed again," says Monday.

Commerce stabbing suspect due in court Tuesday; John Doe 7 vs. City of Commerce, Part 2; Prison sentence given in Greenville purse snatching case; Greenville citizens group to meet Tuesday to discuss downtown business; Hopkins County Commssioners to again address options for jail overcrowding.

Hopkins County – The latest attempt to control jail overcrowding in Hopkins County is set to be addressed by commissioners during its Wednesday meeting.

On the agenda is discussion on possible implementation of electronic monitoring bracelets as an alternative option.

Greenville – A Greenville citizens group will be talking about the C.U.R.E (Citizens Urban Renewal Effort) again Tuesday.

The group has its second meeting scheduled at 7 p.m. inside the Hampton Inn & Suites hotel, 3001 Kari Lane. More information will be provided on what has been referred to as "the neighborhood in transition", a five-block deep and 11-block wide section of the core of downtown where he hopes to encourage development and support downtown businesses.

Commerce – A suspect in a Thursday night stabbing in Commerce is due in court Tuesday.

17-year-old Corey Dominic Heath is seeking a reduction in his $35,000 bond on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Heath has reportedly confessed to slashing the throat of the victim following an argument over a shirt in the 1900 block of Pecan Street.

Greenville – A prison sentence is handed down in a Greenville purse snatching case.

21-year-old Chadrick O'Neal Robinson, of Greenville, was given 18 years in prison Monday after his 2007 probation involving a purse snatching was revoked. Robinson was one of two men who had pleaded guilty to a charge of robbery regarding a violent purse snatching at Crossroads Mall during which injured a woman.

Commerce – The City of Commerce has spent over $50,000 ($57,308 as of June 9) in tax payer money to date on attorney's fees for its current sex offender lawsuit; John Doe 7 vs. City of Commerce. In this multi-part series, KETR will explain why the litigation continues and no settlement reached, despite the amount of tax-payer money being spent.

The ordinance was approved in November, 2007 and the lawsuit filed a few months later. The ordinance is currently not being enforced.

Hopkins County – Two people have now died as the result of a double shooting in Hopkins County last Friday.

Initial reports stated Kimberly McLarry, of Wood County, had shot her husband in the face at Mike's Garage on Hwy 154 south of Sulphur Springs. She was killed by a state trooper in Yantis shortly after the shooting after refusing to drop her handgun. Her husband, Robert Allen McLarry, later died after being flown to a Tyler hospital.
