Greenville – The Greenville Electric Utility System (GEUS) is seeking approval of a grant to help save its customers money.

Through the Weatherization Assistance Program, GEUS would receive $545,000 to help weatherize homes, making them more energy efficient. The funds are being sought through the recently approved American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

Commerce – Commerce Fire Chief Brian McNevin says there were no incidents over the July 4 weekend pertaining to fireworks.

The issue is always something officials are looking out for over the holiday, as the use of fireworks is prohibited within city limits as well as all incorporated cities within Hunt County. They are allowed, however, in the unincorporated areas. No such incidents were reported elsewhere in the county, as well.

More construction begins Monday along I-30; Cooke County accident kills two, injures seven; First of two town hall meetings in Greenville set for tomorrow; Rockwall in top 10 nationally among best family cities based on magazine; Hundreds in attendance Friday for TEA (Taxed Enough Already) Party Rallies in area.

Cooke County – The Texas Department of Public Safety is reporting a nine car accident in Cooke County that killed two and injured seven over the weekend.

Killed in the wreck were Gervious Hinkle and his 13-year-old grandson, Casey Ishak, both of Fort Worth. Another passenger from the same vehicle remains in critical condition.

Sulphur Springs, Greenville – Hundreds of spectators gathered Friday evening at the Hopkins County Courthouse in Sulphur Springs to hear Gov. Rick Perry speak at a TEA (Taxed Enough Already) Party Rally.

Also speaking at the event was U.S. Rep. Ralph Hall and Hopkins County Judge Cletis Milsap, among others.

The rally was a follow-up to the first TEA Party Rally held at the courthouse square on April 15, one of hundreds staged across the nation that day, to protest excessive government spending.

Hunt County – More road work is underway along Interstate 30 in Hunt County.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) recently awarded a $7.3 million contract to RK Hall Construction for a resurfacing project, to stretch from the Rockwall County line to 1.51 miles west of State Highway 34/Wesley Street. 110 working days have been given to complete the project, with work set to begin Monday.

Temporary lane and ramp closures in both directions are expected throughout the project.

Greenville – The first of two town hall meetings in Greenville takes place tomorrow.

In April, the city issued a survey which asked whether citizens would attend such a meeting and provided an opportunity for residents to select the topics for discussion.

City Manager Steven Alexander plans to present a brief overview of current city projects and programs and citizens are invited to ask questions and discuss any concerns they may have.

Rockwall – The July issue of Family Circle Magazine shows Rockwall made the top ten list of the country's best towns for families.

The town made the top ten out of about 17-hundred communities. Factors such as affordable housing, neighborhood friendliness, city parks, and school districts were a part of the survey.
