Commerce hires group to assist in SH 11 project

Commerce – The Commerce City Council has authorized another agreement for services regarding its Highway 11 utility relocation project.

Council members Tuesday approved a resolution authorizing a contract with Crossland Acquisition Inc. of McKinney in attaining easements for the project.

Dean and Provost named at A&M-Commerce

Commerce – Texas A&M University-Commerce has announced pending appointments for both the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.

President Dr. Dan Jones made the announcement in an email to faculty and staff Wednesday morning.

Death of Commerce teen still unknown

Commerce – Commerce Police are still waiting to receive word of what may have led to the death of a 16-year-old resident who was found dead in the city last week.

The 16-year-old girl was found last Thursday in her grandparent's home, located in the 1600 block of Ash Street, after a call to police came in just before 10:00 a.m. Her name has not been released.

Arraignments set in local oil and gas fraud case

Hunt County – Arraignments are set for officials connected to a Hunt County oil and gas fraud.

Arraignments for Michael Day Lamont and Carl Tinsley Ratner were scheduled for Tuesday but were reset for Thursday morning, as neither defendant had an attorney present. Both have filed writs of habeas corpus asking the court to appoint them attorneys.

Greenville ISD discuss drug testing policy

Greenville – The Greenville Independent School District yesterday received the first reading of a proposed drug testing policy.

The Greenville Herald Banner reports the board did not vote to approve the first reading, but instead voted by a 6-1 tally to remove the reading from the consent agenda.

The item was removed reportedly because there was concern over wording and the policy's fairness.

One comment stated that testing the student seven calendar days from the first offense will not give the drug enough time to get out of the student's system.

City considers townhall meeting through survey

Greenville – The City of Greenville is seeking input from residents on the possibility of holding a Town Hall Meeting and what topics might be discussed if one is held.

A survey has been posted on the City's website at www.ci.greenville.tx.us. Residents can click on the "Town Hall Meeting Survey" button located on the left hand side of the home page to complete.
