Latest census finds little change in Hunt County

Hunt County – There's been little change in the population of Hunt County cities over the past year.

Commerce was the only city in Hunt County to record a bump in population numbers, according to estimates released Thursday afternoon by the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG). The city had an estimated population of 9,700 people at the start of the year, an increase of 50 people from beginning of last year.

Greenville's population of 26,600 people last year was unchanged.

Arraignments held in local fraud case

Hunt County – Arraignments are held in connection to a Hunt County oil and gas fraud case.

Michael Day Lamont and Carl Tinsley Ratner pleaded not guilty Thursday to charges of engaging in organized crime involving a Wolfe City oil and gas firm.

Lamont, who already had hired an attorney, had his bonds lowered from $100,000 on each charge to $10,000.

Lamont, of Allen, and Carl Tinsley Ratner, address unknown, were indicted by the Hunt County grand jury last month along with Donald Joseph Dean, of Tyler.

Former Cowboy Pearson speaks in Commerce

Commerce – Former Dallas Cowboy Wide Receiver Drew Pearson was the featured speaker at Thursday's fourteenth annual Commerce Business and Industry Appreciation Luncheon held on the campus of Texas A&M University-Commerce.

Pearson, a member of the 1978 Super Bowl Champion Cowboys, also helped the team advance to two other Super Bowls during his ten years in the league.

Man arrested in shooting death of A&M-Commerce student

Commerce – Morris County authorities have arrested the man they believed shot and killed a Texas A&M University-Commerce student outside a club near Daingerfield nearly two weeks ago.

23-year-old Deunjerelle (Dee-uhn-Jair-el) Lester Jackson, of Pittsburg, was arrested last Friday and charged with one count of murder in connection to the death of Christopher Rashad Moore. In addition to the murder charge, Jackson is charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Commerce man arrersted for reported abduction

Commerce – A Commerce man is arrested in connection to a reported abduction in the city.

Martez Demond Kimble was taken into custody Monday night and charged with multiple counts.

A woman was alleged to have been abducted from the Commerce Subway restaurant Monday evening. She was able to get away from Kimble at Wal-Mart where she met up with friends and called 911.

Arrests upcoming in Commerce vandalism case

Commerce – Arrests are possible in Commerce regarding a series of criminal mischief cases last weekend.

Commerce Police are preparing to arrest multiple suspects in connection with the series vandalism acts on motor vehicles. Two arrest warrants are expected to be served later this week according to Detective Steve Scott.

Commerce hires group to assist in SH 11 project

Commerce – The Commerce City Council has authorized another agreement for services regarding its Highway 11 utility relocation project.

Council members Tuesday approved a resolution authorizing a contract with Crossland Acquisition Inc. of McKinney in attaining easements for the project.
