Royse City appoints former Commerce official

Commerce, Royse City – Former Commerce City Manager Bill Shipp has landed another City Manager's position, this time in Royse City.

The job was initially offered to Lee Elliot, who declined. The Royse City City Council then named Shipp to the post, who accepted and began his duties last week.

Shipp retired last spring after serving as Commerce City Manager for five years. Prior to his time in Commerce, he served as assistant city manager for the City of Addison.

Securitites fraud indictments handed down

Hunt County – Securities fraud indictments have been handed down in connection with oil and gas sales in Hunt County.

The grand jury issued indictments Friday afternoon against Donald Joseph Dean, of Tyler; Michael Day Lamont, of Allen; and Carl Tinsley Ratner, address unknown. The three are alleged to have engaged in organized criminal activity and sold unregistered securities connected to a Wolfe City oil and gas company.

Citizens reminded of severe weather sirens

Commerce, Greenville – With severe weather threatening the region throughout the week and more storms likely as the season continues, officials are reminding citizens to be aware of warning sirens in your area.

The outdoor warning system for the City of Commerce and Texas A&M University-Commerce activates when destructive winds are measured in excess of 70 mph, a tornado is reported by a weather spotter or public official and/or upon recommendation from the National Weather Service.

DWI arrest at Greenville restaurant

Greenville – At approximately 12:42 a.m. on Friday, March 27, 2009, officers with the Greenville Police Department responded to a call of a possible intoxicated person in the drive-through window of the Whataburger Restaurant, located at 6400 Wesley Street.

When officers arrived, witnesses at the scene stated that the suspect vehicle had driven around the building and back through the drive-through lane of the restaurant. Officers contacted the driver of a 1993 Chevrolet in the drive-through lane of the restaurant.
