Homecoming this week at A&M-Commerce

Commerce – Homecoming festivities get underway Tuesday at Texas A&M University-Commerce. The annual event will take place now through Saturday, with a wide variety of activities scheduled.

Tuesday morning at 11:30 a.m., with Breakout Entertainment will host "X-Treme Air," a skydiving simulator. Students can experience "X-Treme Air," on the West Lawn of the Memorial Student Center.

The Hot Dog Spirit Rally Cook-Out will begin Wedensday at noon, to also take place on the East Circle of the MSC.

Three Individuals Arrested In Connection With Armed Robbery

Greenville – According to a statement issued Monday by the Greenville Police Department, the department was notified of a reported armed robbery in the 4200 block of King Street on Oct. 16. During the investigation, three individuals, all from Greenville, were identified as suspects in the offense.

Hunt County Grand Jury Returns Indictments

Greenville – In all, the grand jury issued 59 indictments, including one indictment issued sealed pending the arrest and arraignment of the person named in the charge. The indictments were issued Friday, but were not available for viewing until Monday morning.

Early voting continues at a rapid pace

Greenville – Voters casting early ballots for the Nov. 4 elections picked up Monday right where they left off Friday, with hundreds of additional votes cast. Through Monday evening, a total of 7,828 early votes had been cast in Hunt County for the elections next Tuesday.

Crime Stoppers seek school burglars

Paris – Lamar County Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information regarding a recent school burglary in Paris.

The crime occurred on the night of Wednesday, August 27 at the Travis Middle School, located in the 3100 Block of Graham St. Unknown persons are reported to have broke into the school and ransacked several classrooms, and removed several laptop computers and other audio video equipment valued at several thousand dollars.

Highway 34 overpass project to begin soon

Greenville – A major highway plan could be starting soon in Greenville. The rebuilding of the State Highway 34 overpass across I-30 is now scheduled to be underway just before Thanksgiving. The $38.8 million project is expected to take 30 months to complete.

Celeste ISD seeks 13-cent tax hike next Tuesday

Celeste – The Celeste School Board is asking for a 13-cent tax increase on the November 4 ballot to cope with rising costs.

The Greenville Herald Banner reports the increase is needed to pay to get the new high school up and running. It will also pay for the rising utility and fuel costs; pay to keep teacher salaries competitive and to provide quality extracurricular programs.
