Crime Stoppers seek robbery suspect

Greenville – Hunt County Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the persons responsible for an aggravated robbery in Greenville.

The crime occurred in the twenty-six-hundred block of McDougal St. at approximately 8:15 PM on October 2nd. The suspects approached the victim at gun point and demanded money. The suspects are described as 4 black males, 18-25 years of age, each around 5'7 tall with a thin build.

Murder suspect back in court Thursday

Hunt County – Another hearing is scheduled in a Hunt County capitol murder case today. After having an attorney appointed earlier this week to represent him, Jerry Lynn Phelps is scheduled to be back in court today now seeking a reduction in his bonds. A hearing concerning reduction is scheduled at 9 a.m. Thursday. Phelps is being held on a total of $500,000 bond on each of the charges involving the death of Charlene Hoover Jones, the owner of an area game room where Phelps used to work.

A&M-Commerce looking into athletic fee

Commerce – Students at Texas A&M University-Commerce will soon have the opportunity to vote for or against the implementation of an athletic fee.

The fee is one of the initial recommendations of the University's newly formed Budget Review and Development Council, and was addressed during Wednesday's University Community Update.

Commerce robbery suspect pleads not guilty

Commerce – A not guilty plea has been entered in a Commerce robbery case. Marcus Ledane Stevenson, one of three men indicted on charges of aggravated robbery in connection with a reported armed hold-up last summer at a Commerce residence, has pleaded not guilty. Stevenson, of Greenville, has also been charged with aggravated sexual assault, and all three men have also been indicted for the possession of crack cocaine. Stevenson pleaded not guilty to all three charges Tuesday.

Greenville fire chief steps down

Greenville – There will be a change at the Greenville Fire Department. Fire Chief Raul Reyes Jr., who had been a finalist for the position of chief of the fire department in Austin, handed in his resignation Monday. Reyes cited personal reasons for leaving. Deputy Fire Chief Dough Caison has been appointed Interim Fire Chief and a search for a new fire chief is said to begin soon. Reyes was hired in May, becoming Greenville's third fire chief in five years.

School zone speed change coming to Bonham

Bonham – Motorists in Bonham will soon notice a change in speed zones along portions of Highway 78.

The Bonham City Council Monday approved an ordinance initiated by the Texas Department of Transportation that establishes reduced speeds in school zones on Highway 78 from the north to the south city limits.
