A&M-Commerce, Eastfield College sign articulation agreement

By Brent Lyday

Commerce – Eastfield College students can seamlessly transfer to Texas A&M University-Commerce after completing their associate's degree following a recent dual admission articulation agreement between the colleges at Eastfield College in Mesquite.

"This is not the beginning of a partnership between A&M-Commerce and Eastfield; it's in some ways a continuation and a culmination of a relationship that has been growing, evolving and developing for a long time," said Dr. Dan Jones, A&M-Commerce president. "It's been a very healthy relationship and we welcome many students from Eastfield every year."

Eastfield College students will receive admission to A&M-Commerce after completing the recommended program of study, common core and transfer curriculum, or after earning an associate of arts/sciences degree and meeting all other admission requirements.

"This agreement is really an auspicious moment for us," said Dr. Jean Conway, Eastfield College interim president. "We are delighted to have a partnership and an agreement that makes it very concrete and clear for our students to transition into higher education past Eastfield College."

Eastfield College students transferring prior to completing a degree plan will be awarded transfer credit hours. Students must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 on all hours attempted, and 21 earned hours of transfer credits for admission into A&M-Commerce.

"I am pleased to be here to join with A&M-Commerce as we take another step in closing the distance between Commerce and Dallas," said Dr. Wright Lassiter, Dallas County Community College District chancellor. "This agreement represents a new pathway for our students."
