On Saturday evening an all terrain vehicle (ATV) is believed to be the cause of a house fire of a home located on State Highway 24 in Klondike.
“We received the call at 4:49 p.m. and had to attack through the attic,” said Tanner Crutcher, Cooper Volunteer Fire Captain, on the home/shop combination structure.
The metal building home belonged to Joey and Samantha Moore according to Klondike Cooper Review community correspondent Patricia Blundell. The family of five was fortunate to make it out of the house unharmed as three local fire departments including Klondike, Cooper and Pecan Gap responded to the blaze.
“We were able to save many of the personal belongings,” said Cooper Volunteer Fire Chief Charles Ruzicka.
While on Friday morning Tim and Jo Marie Jones of Mount Joy also lost their home to an ATV which caught fire and exploded in their shop which was attached to their home.
The couple lost many antiques and vehicles in the fire along with smoke and water damage.
It is believed the ATVs were possibly the same brand of Polaris both being new 2015 year models.
“We are calling for an investigator to review the fires,” added Fire Chief Ruzicka.
The Red Cross is assisting both families.
