Bonham ISD approves budget reduction plan

By Scott Harvey

Bonham – There's increasing discussing about resignation incentives among Texas public school districts as they explore all budget-cutting options.

The Bonham ISD is to consider the option as they move forward with a plan to reduce $1 million from its 2011-2012 budget. Board members unanimously approved the plan on Monday.

In addition to offering resignation incentives, the district may also consider utilizing some of its fund balance and freeze teacher salaries.

The Greenville ISD has also indicated plans to offering incentives for employees who give advance notice of their resignations. They'll discuss their budget Tuesday night at 7 p.m. from the Wesley Martin Operations Center.

One area district not currently pursuing the resignation option is the Commerce ISD. According to Superintendent Blake Cooper, the board has expressed opposition to the incentive in budget meetings.

Also on Tuesday, the Caddo Mills ISD will host a town hall meeting to inform citizens about their budget issues and possible solutions. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. from the High School Gymnasium.
