Update: May 30, 2018: Police in Melissa have identified the 18 year old Bonham man as Xzavion Epps.

A Bonham teenager, whose idenitity has not been released as of late Monday morning, appears to have drowned at a pond near Melissa.

Authorities were called to the incident at around 6:00 p.m. on Sunday evening, officials said. The teen was swimming with friends on the site of a private quarry in Melissa, they said. The young man tried to swim from one side of the quarry to the other, but got tired halfway and panicked, witnesses said. The teen went underwater and never resurfaced, they said.

Police said that two of the teen’s friends tried to rescue him, but were almost pulled under as well.

Dive teams from Lewisville and Wylie worked for nearly six hours in an attempt to locate the teenager, with assistance from the Collin County Sheriff’s Office. Crews recovered the young man's body Monday morning, they said.
