CISD Board Meeting brief

By Kevin Jefferies

Commerce – The Commerce school board approved the preliminary budget in regular session last night. The budget includes raised salaries for teachers and staff in the district, debt service for the new elementary school, and an 18-cent tax decrease. The final budget will be approved once final property values are released in August.

In other action, the board approved the purchase of two new school buses for about $143,000. Also, Interim Superintendent Buddy Echols stated a very preliminary timeline for construction of the new school, with a move-in date by Christmas of 2008. Echols also thanked the board and staff and complimented the district as he ends his brief tenure as Interim Superintendent. A reception welcoming new superintendent Mike Roberts to the district will be held Wednesday starting at 4:30 at the Commerce Middle School.
