Council, commissioners agree on Highway 24 funding

PARIS - The Paris City Council agreed Monday to fund a portion of the right-of-way acquisition and utility relocation costs concerning the widening of State Highway 24.

The decision came hours after Lamar County Commissioners also agreed to commit to the project. Delta County Commissioners recently approved a similar resolution.

In October, the Texas Department of Transportation announced approval of the widening of a ten mile section of the roadway from two to four lanes, which runs from the Hunt-Delta County line to just south of Cooper. The estimated $30.9 million project is part of $5 billion in Proposition 12 bonds that were first approved by voters and then authorized by the Texas Legislature in 2007.

The project isn’t expected to begin until 2013.
