Dallas Wings Fail to Close Out Washington Mystics (Slideshow)

The Dallas Wings extended their losing streak to five games Sunday, courtesy of the Washington Mystics, 76-74.

The Mystics (16-11) snuck away with the game in the final seconds with a jumper from Kristi Toliver in the short corner. She led the Mystics with a game-high 16 points and 5 assists. Kayla Thornton drew the defensive assignment against Elena Delle Donne and was able to hold the 2015 MVP to just 5 points. The Wings (14-14) are still in the playoff race as they narrowly hang on to the eighth seed. Dallas was lead by All-Star Liz Cambage who posted 16 points and 14 rebounds, notching her 12th double-double this season. Former Wings player Aerial Powers made her appearance back to the College Park Center for the first time with her new team and had 7 points in her return.

“Focus on the little things,” Wings forward Kayla Thornton said. “That’s what’s killing us right now, that’s the main thing. I think everybody gave a great effort, I think KD (Kaela Davis) did a great job stepping in with Skylar being out. She plays a big part in us and I think KD is doing a tremendous job doing that. Everyone else is just filling their roles and at the end of the day it’s just the little things that kill us, but we’re going to be alright. We’re going to overcome this.”

With six games left in the season, Dallas looks to shift their momentum. They must prepare for another home game on Wednesday against All-Star Chiney Ogwumike and the Connecticut Sun (16-12) at 7pm CST.
