The newly constructed west bound lanes of State Highway 24 in Delta County are now open to traffic.

Delbert Horton with the Sulphur River Regional Mobility Authority Board brought good news to Delta County informing the court the County will be receiving a refund of $49,435.74 from the $132,144.00 put up for the purchasing of right of ways and utilities during the expansion of State Highway 24.

“I was glad to see this happen and not to be having to ask for any additional funds,” said Delbert Horton. He reports the expansion of State Highway 24 should be completed at the end of the 2017 year. The biggest remaining part is the installation of bridges which could take longer due to the weather-pending process.

He hopes to have this refund processed within the next 30 days. He also noted the City of Cooper shall also see a refund portion to be determined from the percentage of funds provided to SuRRMA. Some of the others contributing were Lamar County and Paris Economic Development Corporation.

Dr. Jason Davis was also re-appointed to the SuRRMA Board during Monday’s regular Delta County Commissioners Court.
