Flynn informs businesses of new federal law

By Scott Harvey

– State Representative for District 2 Dan Flynn is calling upon area businesses to familiarize themselves with a new federal law.

The Fair and Accurate Credit Transaction Act, known as FACTA, will affect day-to-day methods of doing business. FACTA addresses identity theft issues and directs business owners to take the necessary steps to help reduce the liability for such crimes when they occur and may threaten business operations.

The Federal Trade Commission estimates that over 50% of all identity thefts occur through the workplace.

The implementation date for these new sets of regulations is June 1.
