Grand Jury indicts two on murder charges

GREENVILLE - George Steven Cook, of Greenville, and Melanie Smith, of Point, are each being held in jail on $500,000 bond.

The two are alleged to have been involved in the death of Smith’s husband, David, at a residence in the southern part of the county last October.

Authorities say David’s death occurred following a night of heavy drinking and after he allegedly confronted Cook.
