Greenville calls on residents to conserve water

By Jerrod Knight

Greenville – Citing a lack of rainfall, Greenville City Manager Steven Alexander has announced the implementation of water conservation measures for the City of Greenville.

In 2007, the City of Greenville updated a 1999 Water Conservation and Drought Contingency plan and yesterday, the City Manger indicated that Greenville is at Stage 2, Moderate water shortage conditions.

What that means for Greenville residents is this: If your house number ends in 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8, you can use your sprinkler on your landscaping on Sundays and Thursdays. If your house number ends with 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9, your landscape irrigation is limited to Saturdays and Wednesdays.

There are some other minor restrictions, including only washing your car by hand out of a bucket, rather than with the hose, but the gist of this announcement is that residents should cut back water usage, which will help the city to conserve about 10% during this dry period.

The full announcement is on the City of Greenville website - http://www.ci.greenville.tx.us.
