Highway Paving in Commerce Nearly Complete

COMMERCE - After weeks of delays, crews are preparing to put the final touches on the remaining lanes of Loop 178/Culver Street in Commerce.

RK Hall Construction started the project in August, quickly stripping and repaving the roughly 1.5 mile stretch from Highway 224 to Highway 50. But the remaining stretch running from Whitley Hall to Commerce Middle School, already stripped of old pavement, sat untouched from late August until last Thursday.

“The Contractor RK Hall was pulled off this project in Commerce to complete work utilizing their spray paver in Grayson County on another TxDOT project,” says TxDot's Paris District Spokesman Tray Turner.

As of Wednesday morning, all but the two outside lanes of Loop 178 had been repaved. Repainting the lines will be the final step.

The Commerce project was part of a $2.6 million contract that also included the same procedure in Quinlan along Highway 276 East from Highway 34 to Oakwood Lane (CR 3609), about a 3.6 mile stretch.
