The next development in the ongoing legal battle over the Keystone XL pipeline in Northeast Texas will occur next week.
On July 30, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals in Greenville will hear opening arguments in the case filed by Lamar County landowner Julia Trigg Crawford against TransCanada, the company building the Keystone XL pipeline. The southern leg of the pipeline, which is under construction, goes from Cushing, Okla., to the Texas Gulf Coast.
The matter of dispute is whether TransCanada is entitled to invoke eminent domain privileges for its project. Companies whose projects qualify as "common carriers" by state criteria are awarded eminent domain privileges.
Crawford is being represented by Wendi Hammond of Plano, who represented Crawford last year in a Lamar County court, where Crawford’s petition was denied.
