The Delta County Commissioners Court heard from InTouch by CumbyTel on the options necessary to fix the phone system which was permanently damaged lightning in a recent storm. It was suggested to do a replacement with $8,000 to cover new phones (with digital labels) and new wiring and motherboard.
Delta County Treasurer Bonnie Hobbs reported the County did not receive enough insurance money to quite cover the replacement option. Delta County Judge Jason Murray testified to the phone issues. The Court unanimously accepted of the proposed offer made by InTouch by CumbyTel.
Delta County Emergency Management Coordinator Monty Hobbs was given approval to proceed in research to see how many Delta County citizens would be interested in participating in a Texas Individual Tornado Safe Room Rebate Program. Hobbs said he is looking for feedback only on those who would be willing to participate in the FEMA grant (he noted not to actually begin any new construction yet and that this would not apply to existing shelters). Some of the stipulations of the program require an application process and obtaining a National Storm Shelter Association (NSSA) or an American Tornado Shelter Association (ATSA) seal in order to qualify for reimbursement but this is only after Delta County becomes involved in this program.
