tamuc.smugmug.com
The Lions took care of business on the road. Now a big matchup looms next week.

In the first ever matchup between the two schools, the no. 6 Texas A&M University-Commerce football team was able to stay unbeaten on the year with a 35-13 win over Oklahoma Panhandle State University.

The Lions (5-0, 3-0 Lone Star Conference) scored all of their points in the first half, and the defense didn’t allow the Aggies (1-4, 0-3 LSC) any points until the 11:22 mark in the third quarter. By then, the Lions were well on their way to another victory.

The Lion defense held the Aggies to 262 total yards, 54 of which came on the ground. The Lions had four sacks, led by Josh Reynolds who had one and a half sacks. The Lions Trey Porter also had an interception, the only turnover the Lions defense caused in the game.

A&M-Commerce was led on offense by quarterback Luis Perez, who went 34-48 for 397 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. Perez connected the most often with Lance Evans and D’Arthur Cowan, who both had seven catches in the game. Evans totaled 110 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while Cowan accumulated 65 yards and a touchdown. Ovie Urevbu led all rushers with four carries for 64 yards, while Richard Cooper totaled 11 carries for 53 yards and a touchdown before receiving some rest.

The Lions return home next week for a big matchup with Midwestern State (4-0, 3-0 LSC). The game is set for a 7 p.m. kickoff, with a video stream of the game available via ESPN 3 online. You can also hear every Lions football game on KETR at 88.9 FM and right here online at ketr.org.
