NE Texas Drought Could Subside by Summer

U.S. Drought Monitor map.

The latest seasonal outlook from the Texas Water Development Board shows drought removal likely for Texas by the end of July.

Recent soaking rains have greatly lessened drought conditions in Northeast Texas. Much of the region had been classified under moderate to severe drought since the beginning of this year.  But the latest map from the Water Development Board’s Weekly Drought Report this week shows drought subsided in many areas.

While moderate drought persists in all of Fannin County, moderate drought conditions have downgraded to abnormally dry in parts of Lamar and Delta counties. The northern edge of Hunt County also remains in moderate drought, but conditions improved greatly after last week’s half-inch of rain.

Statewide reservoir conditions continue to remain above normal for this time of year
