Paris team wins Cooper Lake catfish tourney

The Friends of Doctors Creek held their annual catfish tournament at Cooper Lake State Park on May 10. High winds limited the number of entries but many braved the elements and all caught catfish. The event started at 6 a.m. and weigh in was at 3:30 p.m. First place went to a Paris group consisting of Johnny Ward Sr., Johnny Ward Jr. and Payton Ward with their catch of five fish weighing 105 pounds. Peyton is only about 10 years old and caught the biggest catfish of the day with a 26-pounder. The second place team was a group was from Sulphur Bluff made up of Tim Darner, Brian Darner and Barry Bassham with a catch of 53 pounds. Third group was made up of Doug Moore and Ace Hurley from Cooper and Dustin Phillips from Bonham. Their best five catfish weighed 42 pounds.
