Phony Sheriffs are Scamming Delta County

The Federal Trade Commission is warning Delta County residents to be wary of scammers posing as county sheriffs, lawyers, and bounty hunters who claim to have arrest warrants.

The FTC says the scammers are manipulating caller ID to make the numbers they are calling from look as if they’re coming from the Delta County Sheriff’s office, or from the county jail. The phony law enforcement officials reportedly tell residents there’s a warrant for their arrest and ask for payment over the phone, typically within 15 minutes.

Delta County officials say a sheriff or deputy will visit you in person if there is a warrant for your arrest.
