Poetry – Several exotic cats found in a Hunt County horse stable have been rescued after being found in unsanitary conditions.
The cougars, lions and one tiger found on a property near Poetry were reportedly malnourish, held in filthy pens covered in urine and feces.
Vicky Keahey runs a wildlife sanctuary in Wylie along with her husband. She tearfully explained her feelings when speaking with KTVT-TV.
"There was a cougar lying in the corner. He had the shakes real bad, so we quickly went over to give him water. He tried three times to get up and get to the water."
The owner had reportedly become very ill and was unable to take care of the animals. She died of cancer last week.
KTVT reports the couple has agreed to take eight cats back to their sanctuary in Wylie. The remaining 12 animals will be sent to rescue centers in Indiana and New Jersey.
