Sentencing delayed in Caddo Mills murder case

GREENVILLE - The punishment for convicted murderer Randall Douglas Smith will have to wait two more weeks after a judge grants a pre-sentence investigation.

The unusual move by 354th District Court Richard A. Beacom delays sentencing until Oct. 26. Smith, who is facing a potential life in prison term, did not testify in his own defense but will have to give his version of events as part of the investigation.

He pleaded guilty Monday to the September, 2009 shooting death of Gregory Poteet, also of Caddo Mills.
