Delta County Tax Assessor-Collector Dawn Stewart has just announced she will be running for re-election for her current position. She is currently the longest standing elected official in office. She is second in length to Delta County employee Willie Faye Bowen.

“I would like to take this opportunity to announce my intentions to run for re-election as your County Tax Assessor-Collector,” said Dawn Stewart. “In April, I will have 25 years experience as Delta County Tax Assessor-Collector.”

During her time in office she has moved the records from pen and paper to being completely automated. In 2007 the office took on collections for both the City of Cooper and Cooper Independent School District, as well.

“I strive to do what I can for my customers,” said Stewart. “I have seen lots of changes in the past 25 years, most of them good.”

She has served for four judges in her time in office. Stewart has also performed duties on the Delta County Appraisal District Board for nearly 20 years.

She enjoys being able to help people and that has been what has kept her doing the work she is in for the length of time. Her office has even made improvements to the décor for anyone needing to do business at the Delta County Courthouse.
