Larry Phillips, R-62nd, is serving his last term in the Texas House.

After eight terms in the Texas Legislature, State Rep. Larry Phillips (R-62nd) will end his time in office next year.

The Republican, whose district includes Grayson, Fannin, and Delta counties, said in a statement that he has decided not to seek reelection in 2018. House District 62 already has two candidates aiming for Phillips’ seat: Republicans Brent Lawson, an electrical engineer from Van Alstyne, and former Sherman City Councilman Kevin Couch.

By stepping down, Phillips also gives up his position as chairman of the House’s Insurance Committee.
