Text-to-911 Now in Fannin, Grayson, & Cooke Counties

You can call 9-1-1 from any cell phone, but now you can text to 9-1-1 in Cooke, Fannin, and Grayson counties.

Texoma Council of Governments Executive Director Susan Thomas made the announcement today. The text-to-9-1-1 service is now available for anyone who’s not able to make a voice call. That could happen if you run out of call minutes, but still have text. It could also come in useful for anyone who might be deaf, hard of hearing, or speech impaired, or when speaking out loud would put the someone in danger.

Thomas says the service is available for anyone whose cell service is provided by one of the four major carriers. AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon.
