Thanks to Rains, Counties Rescind Burn Bans

The Hunt County Commissioners vote Tuesday to lift its burn ban was the third cancelation in the past week.

Director of the Hunt County Office of Homeland Security Richard Hill says this only affects areas outside city limits since many cities have ordinances that prohibit outdoor burning. Hill still encourages all persons to be extremely cautious and diligent when burning outside by being present while the fire is active, only do so during daylight hours and when wind speeds do not exceed 23 mph.

Tuesday’s decision in Hunt County came a day after Lamar County Commissioners voted to rescind their ban on outdoor burning. Fannin County Commissioners also cited recent rains in lifting their burn ban last week.

Delta, Collin, Kaufman, Rockwall and Van Zandt counties were still under the restrictions as of Tuesday.
