Thronton wins recount for Commissioner's post

By Brad Kellar

Greenville – A Hunt County Commissioner has official won office. Incumbent Democrat Precinct 1 Hunt County Commissioner Kenneth Thornton was elected to another term in office Monday, after the results of a recount of the Nov. 4 balloting confirmed his victory over Republican challenger Mike Pierce. Hunt County Elections Administrator Mina Cook said the final total revealed Thornton won by only nine ballots. The gap had been 11 votes in Thornton's favor following the canvassing of the returns last Wednesday. Pierce had reportedly realized going in his odds were slim in overcoming the deficit, but said he felt he owed it to his supporters to seek the recount.
