– East Texas was the site of nearly a dozen suspected tornadoes, some of which caused major damage Tuesday.
Van Zandt County emergency management spokesman Chuck Allen estimated that "easily 100-plus" homes were destroyed or damaged north of the tiny East Texas town of Edom. He said one woman suffered fractures when her mobile home was destroyed.
Allen described a damage track one mile wide and eight miles long extending from Edom to the north.
No injuries were reported in the cities of Mabank and Gun Barrel City, although several homes were also damaged there as tornadoes came through. Several other parts of Texas experienced strong winds and hail up to a quarter-inch.
Eunice, from Klondike, described the scene in a call to KETR.
"It did start out with a little bit of hail. It's still hailing. But not heavily, just a little bit. And there is lightning and thunder. But the bottom has fallen out of the sky."
Tornado warnings were issued last night for parts of Delta, Hopkins and Lamar counties.
Oncor electric delivery was reporting very few power outages locally Wednesday morning, although a significant amount of residents were still in the dark in Eastern Texas where the series of tornadoes hit.
