Veterans Day ceremonies scheduled locally

The 20th annual Texas A&M University-Commerce Veterans Vigil (above) was held last week on campus during a three day salute to veterans.

A series of events are planned Friday at local entities and schools to honor the men and women of the United States military for Veterans Day.

At 9 a.m. Friday at the Cooper High School gymnasium, the school will be hosting “Students Honoring Our Veterans.” The event will be followed by the American Legion Red Henderson Post 483 Memorial Service, honoring America’s fallen soldiers, at 11 a.m. on the south lawn of the Delta County Courthouse.

Equity Center officially files suit against State

AUSTIN - A coalition of more than 150 school districts has sued the state of Texas over a school funding system they say is unfair, inefficient and unconstitutional.

The coalition represents more than one in 10 Texas districts, including several local districts like Bonham, Commerce, Greenville and Paris.
