The Northeast Rural Rail Transportation District (NETEX) Board met Wednesday afternoon at the Blacklands Railroad Office in Sulphur Springs. NETEX Chairman Sam Young stated while no immediate formal action was taken during the meeting, they have no ties with Public Werks and were in the process of establishing a release.

The chances for a toll road being built along the old railroad right-of-way between Greenville and Lavon seem very slim, now that the North Central Texas Council of Governments' Transportation Division has said the corridor doesn't look like a good place for a road of any sort.

But, Dallas-based Public Werks, Inc., the firm that first proposed the "Blacklands Turnpike," hasn't given up the idea of a toll road connecting Greenville with the suburbs of Dallas.

The parking lot and cafeteria at Phyllis NeSmith Elementary School in Lavon were filled Thursday night, as representatives from the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) announced the start of a transportation study of the area between Lavon and Greenville.
