North Lamar continues to evaluate 4 day school week
By Kevin Jefferies
Paris, Texas – The North Lamar ISD School Board gave the go-ahead to Superintendent James Dawson to continue gathering feedback on moving to a 4-day school week. According to The Paris News, the shortened week could be implemented next year if the community has positive feedback and the plan is approved by the Texas Education Agency. The district will be holding informational meetings at each campus as well as taking feedback through their website.
Increasing fuel and utility prices spurred the district to consider moving to a 4-day school week. The day would be lengthened and classes would run one hour and 55 minutes or an eighth period would need to be added.
Other issues would have to be settled in making the move as well, but Paris Superintendent James Dawson said that if the district can save a quarter million dollars and lower the tax rate by a nickel, the change might be worth making.
