Mow those ditches!
By Kevin Jefferies
Commerce – The Commerce City Council passed the first reading of an amendment to city ordinance that will make property owners take more responsibility for grass and vegetation. The amendment will hold lot owners responsible for weeds and grass in ditches and up to the street, even if that land is city property. Commerce Director of Community Development Steve Wilson said the amendment will make property owners responsible for upkeep on that land and that the amendment was part of a previous ordinance, but had mistakenly been left out when the ordinance was overhauled a few years ago.
In other action, the Commerce City Council nominated Mayor Pro Tem John Sands to the North Central Texas Council of Governments Board of Directors.
Sands said it was important for towns the size of Commerce to have representation.
The council also passed a motion for a letter of support for the sale of TXU to Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. and Texas Pacific Group. The private investment group is seeking the official approval of the sale from governmental bodies across the state.
